### What Happens When AI Data Centres Leave Earth?

Google's Project Suncatcher sounds futuristic, but the reason behind it is very practical: AI needs enormous amounts of computing power, and data centres are becoming increasingly constrained by land, electricity and cooling.

Putting AI hardware in orbit could eventually offer access to constant solar power and sidestep some of those constraints. But getting processors to work reliably in space, communicating with them and bringing the economics down to earth are very different problems.

*   **Snorkel AI** raised **$350M** at a **$3.5B valuation**, as demand grows for specialised training data and reinforcement-learning environments for **frontier AI models**.
*   **Alibaba** unveiled a new **AI chip** and plans for a **5-10 trillion-parameter model**, while targeting more than **20GW** of data-centre capacity by 2032.
*   **Ema** raised **$77M**, taking its total funding to **$100M** as it builds **AI workforce tools** for enterprises.
