## This week in AI

### 1 . Are AI agents getting a little too cute?

OpenAI, Meta and xAI are giving their AI agents friendly, cartoon-like personalities as they push them into more everyday tasks.

### 2 . Will Big Tech regulate AI itself?

Trump and major tech companies have signed a voluntary agreement committing them to stronger AI safeguards, including testing and risk management.

### 3 . Are banks becoming the new target for AI-powered attacks?

South Korean authorities believe AI may have been used in recent cyberattacks targeting several banks, which exposed customers' personal information

## Our take

### When AI Agents Start Looking Too Harmless

Big Tech is putting a lot of effort into making AI agents feel approachable. Friendly names, animated faces, conversational voices and playful personalities make these systems easier to interact with. Grok has its little Bots, Meta has Muse, and OpenAI has its new dots.

That matters because agents are moving beyond answering questions and starting to take actions on our behalf. As they become more capable, the way we present them can shape how much users trust them, and how carefully they think about what an agent is actually doing.

There's nothing wrong with making AI more human-friendly. The challenge is making sure a friendly interface doesn't make a powerful system feel less powerful than it really is.

## What's Ringging

### Interactive web chat components

Web Chat Agents just got more interactive. Build custom chat components like cards, calendars, forms, and comparison widgets using templates or simple prompts. Customize the experience, connect APIs, and turn conversations into actions, all within the chat.

## AI product & startup updates

Anthropic adds another Claude 5.5 model

Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5, its third Claude 5.5 model in less than a month, expanding the lineup with a faster, lower-cost option for everyday AI workloads.

* **Manus** raised more than **$500M**, returning to independence after its planned acquisition by **Meta** fell through.
* **Upscale AI** launched **Token Fabric**, a platform that lets data centres connect **AI chips** from different vendors, reducing the complexity of running mixed hardware.
* **DeepSeek** is reportedly raising up to **$12B**, potentially valuing the Chinese AI startup at around **$74B** as it prepares for a possible IPO.
* **Mistral** launched **Mistral Large 4**, its latest **open-weight model**, targeting coding, cybersecurity, finance and chip design.

## Footnotes

Big Tech is making AI agents cuter.

Nothing says "trust me with your data" like a little cartoon face.
